The Nutrition Mistake That's Costing You Your Gains

You can out-train almost anything except a nutrition plan that was never built for you in the first place.

The most common mistake I see isn't a bad diet — it's a borrowed one. Someone copies the macros of an influencer, a training partner, or a generic "2,200 calorie muscle building plan" and wonders why their results don't match. Your maintenance calories, your activity level, your metabolic history, and your training volume are all different from whoever's numbers you copied. The math has to start with you.

The second mistake is chronic under-eating disguised as discipline. People chase a lean physique by cutting calories further and further, and instead of getting leaner, they lose strength, stall recovery, and eventually stall fat loss too as the body adapts to the deficit. Nutrition that ignores metabolic adaptation isn't a plan — it's a countdown to a plateau.

The third mistake is treating nutrition as separate from training. Your intake needs to move with your training phases — higher around heavier volume blocks, structured differently heading into a peak week, adjusted as your body composition changes. A static macro sheet handed to you once and never revisited can't do that.

None of this means nutrition has to be complicated. It means it has to be built for you, and it has to change as you change. That's the entire premise of coached nutrition versus a downloaded meal plan.

If your training is dialed in but your results have stalled, the plate is usually where to look first — and it's exactly what personalised nutrition coaching is built to fix.
